Defining different File Extensions allows users to filter out different file types in the File View. The File Extensions that get defined will show up in the File Type List.
Under the Settings dialog, select the File Extension Setup tab.

Click on the "New..." button to create a new Filter.

Enter a name describing the filter in the Description field and the corresponding filter definition in the File Types field.
In the example above, "Microsoft Word Files" is the description for the filter describing Microsoft Word Documents.
For this filter, the definition would be ".doc". ( This filter defines all files ending with .doc)
This filter would look like the following:

Multiple file types can be used in a single filter by separating the definitions with a semicolon (;), thus making the filter more generic. For example, the following filter describes several types of music files (WAV files, MP3 files and AIFF files):

Once the filter has been defined click "OK". This filter will be added to the list in the File Extension Setup tab. Once all filters have been defined, click "OK" and they will then show up in the File Type list in the File View.
Notice the picture below with the "MP3 Files" filter selected. Only the files defined by this filter will show up in the File View. There are WAV files in this folder, but they are filtered out by the MP3 Files filter. Notice that selecting the All Files filter will allow every file to show up.
