The tools menu contains several utility actions. These actions are:
Select "Browse for Files..." item on the Tools menu.

Or, right-click on the folder in the Actual File System and select "Browse for Files" and the browse dialog will appear with the selected folder as the main search folder.

The browse dialog allows the user to select the files they intend to lock. Once all file(s) have been selected the user can click the "Lock" button and the selected files will be locked into Filelocker.

Select the Search Files item on the Tools menu.

Or, right-click on a folder in the Actual File System and select "Search Files".

The following picture shows the most basic search screen. Depending on the users search criteria, the dialog may contain additional options.


The Look in section of the search dialog defines where the search will be performed. Click the Browse button to browse the computer for a specific location to begin the search.
Selecting the Search SubDirectories check box in will cause the search to be performed on all folders underneath the base search location.

The Search For Files section is where the search criteria is entered that will describe the files that will be returned by the search. Example search text could be:
All or part of the file name:
.mp3 - to search for all MP3 files.
computer - to search for all files containing the word "computer".
computer* - to search for all files beginning with the word "computer".
*computer - to search for all files ending with the word "computer".
A word or phrase in the file:
Enter key words that appear in the file. For example:
computer - All files containing the word "computer" in them
The advanced section is for defining an advanced search based on file properties. Selecting any three advanced search options will open the advanced component.
What type of file is it?
Selecting this option will open a drop down list of all File Types defined. Select one of the file type associations to search for files defined by the file type definition.

When was it modified?
Selecting this option allows the user to enter information describing information describing when the file(s) being searched were last modifed.
What size is it?
Selecting this option brings up the advanced component that allows the user to enter information describing the size of files being searched.

Once the search has completed, select the files to be locked in the Search Results list and click "Lock Selected", or click "Lock All" to lock all files returned in the search. To cancel click the "Close" button.
